Joel Diaz is a Dominican designer and a graduate from Alto de Chavon School of Design, the most prestigious school of design in the Dominican Republic. He moved to New York after receiving a scholarship to study at Parsons School of Design, then after he pursued a career in fashion, and worked with several designers before landing Helmut Lang. During his formative 5-year stint there, he assisted Helmut Lang and focused on the development of innovative techniques and showpieces. Upon his departure, Joel put this valuable experience to use, directing his energies toward his own work while still consulting for various designers, including Patrick Robinson at Paco Rabanne (Fall 2006). In 2007 he opened JOLIBE with his partner, Christina LaPens, a photographer and art director. The Fall 2007 Collection marked the debut of JOLIBE during Paris Fashion week and has since been shown in New York. JOLIBE continues to receive favorable attention for its master tailoring, innovative fabric treatments and unique artistry.
The s/s 09 Jolibe by Joel Diaz brings gloriously tailored creations of organza, silk, and chiffon. Using a mélange of pales earthy tones with sharp bursts of electric blue, ocher and gold for S/S 09, the designer put together a collection that is destined for admiration.
